Notice of Public Hearing and Availability of Draft Environmental Assessment for Parallel Secondary Runway 11-29 at the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport

The Gallatin Airport Authority and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announce that a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 and the Council of Environmental Quality (CEQ) guidelines to analyze the potential environmental impacts of proposed Parallel Secondary Runway 11-29 at the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport. The federal regulatory agency with jurisdiction over civil aviation is the FAA, which must review and approve all proposed facilities and development on airport property to ensure compatibility with safe airport operations.
The Gallatin Airport Authority proposes to undertake airport improvements at the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport that include: construction of an asphalt runway surface for the secondary Runway 11-29 , construction of a full length parallel taxiway and associated ladder taxiways for the proposed runway installation of new airport lighting and navigational aids; and the necessary grading and drainage improvements.
The Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) will be available for public review for a period of 43 days at the Office of the Airport Director (850 Gallatin Field Road, Suite #6), the Belgrade Community Library (106 N Broadway, Belgrade, MT 59714), the Bozeman Public Library (626 E Main St, Bozeman, MT 59715) during their business hours from March 14, 2016 through April 25, 2016. The Gallatin Airport Authority will provide an overview of the Draft EA and public hearing April 13, 2016 at 7pm at the Airport Fire Station, Bozeman Yellowstone international Airport (662 Wings Way, Belgrade, MT 59714). The event will provide information to the public about the proposed actions, potential economic, social, and environmental impacts of the proposed improvements. It will also provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the draft EA. The Gallatin Airport Authority will record the public meeting.
Potentially affected environmental resources include: Compatible Land Use; Construction Impacts; Farmlands; Fish, Wildlife, and Plants; Hazardous Materials, Pollution Prevention and Solid Waste; Light Emissions and Visual Impacts; Natural Resources and Energy Supply; Noise; Secondary (Induced) Impacts; Climate; Air Quality; and Water Quality.
Written comments regarding the draft EA will be accepted for a 12-day period following the hearing as follows:
- Hand delivered to Office of the Airport Director by 5:00 p.m. MDT on April 25th, 2016
- Post marked by April 23, 2016 if mailed to the Office of the Airport Director at 850 Gallatin Field Road, Suite #6, Belgrade, MT 59714.
- Emailed by 5:00 p.m. MDT April 25th, 2016 to Brian.Sprenger@bozemanairport.com (a confirmation reply will be sent.)
